I think this is a very interesting suggestion for use with Synergy. In-fact, I'm pretty sure this 3rd party supplier could release a version of their product that would work with Synergy if they wanted to do that. Since Synergy is designed as an IoT (ie. connected) device, the need for a PC and a firmware download utility for field updates wouldn't usually be necessary. Connected devices should be able to identify an update is available (via a host system message or cloud service) and allow the update (or not) depending on application specific parameters. On headless systems this could be done via a smartphone, tablet or other local device. Synergy is designed to allow easy updates, using internal Flash, or external storage to buffer the application code prior to verification (CRC or Hash) and restart. The specifics will be documented in the SSP manual when the API is released later this year.
