Probably makes no difference to you at all except things will occur repeatably. If you do not mount then it will take extra time on the first access while it performs the mount. If you do mount you will know sooner that the SD card is valid but if it is then not used in the application time is spent when not required. It has no impact on the problems you are having which seem to be more hardware related or set up of the ports as you don;t even get a response from the very first access. Paul.
