Just my idea. It might be worth to have this confimred by your Renesas support contact. I believe you can use either TSCDR or UIDR contents to identify G version chips. Both values are programmed to the FCU ROM area. The FCU ROM area is 8KB (0xFEFF E000 - 0xFEFF FFFF). If a processor is a D version it does not use these 2 values TSCDR and UIDR. In this case the addresses are either blank (0xFF) or programmed to 0x00. If a processor is a G version it will hold the values for TSCDR and UIDR, thus be different fro 0x00 or 0xFF. The JTAG identification registers are part of the debug unit and not accessible from the CPU.
